Square Roof Curb 15" Square by 8-inch High, Model SRC-12-H8
This roof curb is 15" long by 15" wide and 8" high and is only compatible with roof vents or fans with a curb mount flange. The Model SRC-12-H8 will fit a vent or fan with a curb-mount flange measuring 15.5 inches. Active Ventilation Products' prefabricated roof curbs are for flat or low-slope membrane roofs.
A roof curb is a metal box that acts as a base for a roof vent or fan. Roof curbs can also serve as a hatch, providing easy access to ductwork, HVAC units, or attic maintenance.
Traditionally, roofers build wooden roof curbs on the roof during the membrane installation. However, building wooden curbs can cause damage to the roof membrane. This happens because of the cutting of lumber as well as loose nails or screws that end up getting walked by the crew. Using prefabricated aluminum roof curbs eliminates the need to build wooden boxes and reduces the chance of damaging the roof.
This roof curb is made of aluminum alloy 3003-H14 with a thickness of 0.040" (± 0.005”).
A key safety feature is that aluminum curbs are not flammable, unlike wooden roof curbs. Most roof curbs vent out heat from range hoods or HVAC units. This heat can cause wooden curbs to burn. However, aluminum will not burn, rust, or corrode. Aluminum curbs are safer and easier to clean.
Installation of this roof curb is for EPDM, PVC, and TPO roof membranes
The flashing on the roof curb allows fasteners to attach the curb to the roof securely. Once placed, it must be covered with roofing material for a watertight seal.
